The Judiciary is conducting a series of trainings on Mediation in different parts of the country aimed at building capacity. The first leg of training started today, October 3, 2017 in Gulu District.

While opening the first training at Boma Hotel, Hon. Justice Vincent Okwanga, the Gulu Resident Judge, welcomed the timely intervention.

He has said, "many stakeholders do not understand the Mediation process and how it works."

He appreciated the presence of cultural leaders, opinion and religious leaders who will assist the court in handling Mediation saying this will deal with backlog in the Judiciary.

Hon. Justice Okwanga also welcomed the team of trainers led by Hon. Justice David K. Wangutusi, the head of the Commercial Court assisted by Deputy Registrars, HW Vincent Emmy Mugabo and HW Joyce Kavuma.

The mediation training workshops are targeting judicial officers, opinion leaders, cultural leaders, civil leaders and political leaders.

Besides the training, the Judiciary Communications team is also in Gulu High Court circuit for a series of Mediation sensitization activities.
